Folkboat Week 2021 Ditty by Christine Hartley-Webster
With over 30 on the line,
It’s pretty scary all the time.
Those foaming Folkboat frenzied starts,
Testosterone fuelled, with pounding hearts.
Though Folkboats jostle every day.
Why do the same ones get away?
For Madeleine seems to win most races,
They’re not content with second places.
A shame Ed sacked his leggy girls
With shapely waists and bouncing curls.
We miss them dancing on the deck
With Bella singing soul- by heck!
Now Dr Bob on Bernie’s boat,
Each year fell off to check he’d float.
But Bernie’s now screwed on handrails,
With bolts and screws and six-inch nails.
If Bob falls off now- he’ll despair,
But luckily can’t tear his hair!
So Pip Squeak isn’t used to tides,
And found Springs ain’t such easy rides.
He managed to bash into Hurst,
Then bounced away- but what was worst,
They mounted Blue Mist o’r the stern
And split his main- then did a turn.
The harbour can be fraught for folk-
Reversing out can be no joke.
For Samphire found the North wind blew
Him into three boats ‘for he knew.
Embarrassed, they were quickly gone,
Helmed by the Mayor of Lymington!
