delayed due to our support boats helping a Laser Dinghy and the two sailors to safety,
but finally got underway with a course that split the fleet as to when to cross back
from the mainland shore.
Monday brought early morning grey skies, a flooding tide and a N-E 11-15 knot wind,
which slowly dropped by the
middle of the day, but it did
bring the sun out which
made the long race East with
several shore-to-shore
crossings a challenge and
pleasurable.
Tuesday, still with the 12-18knts North winds and a flood tide turning to ebb resulted
in a short lumpy sea, enough to get water over the deck and the crew. But by the
time of the daily prize giving started on the lawn of RSYC the sun had come out and
stayed for the rest of the evening.
Wednesday was a well-deserved rest day. But a happy group gathered to sing good
old-fashioned songs late into the evening.
Thursday one of the toughest days in the week found us just off Pennington to sail
three Windward / Leewards. Again a 9/18 knots North Easterly in a strongly flooding
tide gave the mark laying boats lots of work to do adjusting the Windward and
starting Buoys. This gave Crews a good challenge and as usual the slick Spinnaker
handlers produced the winners. However, the wind began to drop for the final race
resulting in not all the boats were able to finish in the short time limit. A day of mixed
fortunes.
The evening was the very well supported Quiz and curry supper. Despite a close
contest with two teams level pegging, it was finally won by the Race Officers after 5
final questions to settle the winners.
