Sunday dawned, a little lighter in wind, chilly first thing but plenty of sunshine. Once
again, John and his team set us a good first race of the day with a beat to B (S) then
Pyewell Inner (S), D (P), E (P), East Winner ($) (P) and finish at Sanders, mostly dinghy
marks out of the tide. Well, those on the CB must have thought the competitors
cannot have heard the clear announcement over the radio of the course, as there was
some confusion as to which marks needed to be rounded in which order!! Fritha,
amongst others, had clearly taken down the course correctly and took full advantage
st
and sailed and finished off taking 1 place. Well done to both Gill Thomas and Nigel

nd
Campling. 2 place went to The Otter and then 3 to Riot (Chris Fox).

All down to the 4 race, not that this was being marked as a “Series” event... Starting
in the same vicinity as the first race, near the West of the entrance, the PRO once
again set a beat to M (Orange moveable mark (225) (S) which entailed getting out into
the West going tide and then make a good call on the layline! Then a downwind White
Sail run with the extremely long Whisker poles, avoiding the 6 29ers’ training start
line, with boats capsizing, then the laser training session, again with practice starts, to
the leeward mark... which way to go! Go too close inshore and slightly out of the
breeze did not prove correct and a few boats who sailed further out with a more
direct course rhumb line course in more wind benefitted. Several place changes on
the downwind leg but finishing with So, Njord and Mistral.
A small SD gathering was held on the clubs’ balcony post racing for the presentation
of a bottle of wine and a coaster for each race. Many congratulations to So, Njord and
nd
st
rd
Mistral for 1 , 2 and 3 places respectively.
We are all very much hoping to be able to race the Nationals out in Christchurch Bay
next year. Perhaps White Sails only, but hopefully back to 3 crew. All good practice for
the forthcoming Sessan Cup in 2022. Looking forward to seeing you all out there.
