Folkboat White Sails “Not” the Nationals (12-13/Sep/2020)

There are three important things to say about our Folkboat “Not” the Nationals
weekend, 12-13 September 2020, firstly a big “Thank you” to the Royal Lymington
Yacht Clubs “Race team and All the volunteers” for making it possible for 14 boats to
go out racing, but just as importantly, the competitors for turning up and of course it
being the first Folkboat White Sail event with only Two crew members, due to Covid-
     19 restrictions!

We welcomed So, Simon Osgood and Jamie Lea, North Sails from Hamble and The
Otter (Claire Locke and Richie Bell, North Sails) and Njord (Patrick Farrell and crew)
     from Yarmouth.

The sun, wind (10-16 knots WSW) and neap tide gods were with us, what more could
we all ask for. In the first race, So!, showed the
fleet very much the back of their boat and they
won fairly comfortably from Madelaine (Ed
Donald and crew) and Mistral (Julian and Claire
                                                rd
Sowry) in 3 place. There followed a short
comfort and eating break for the PRO to check
our fleet were not going to be mixing with the
                                                        st
XOD Fleet on their 1 day of XOD week in terms
of racing marks. For the second race the PRO,
John Whyte set us a good course taking in Buoy
B (Hurst) and then a run across the Solent to No
2 and then over to a placed orange dumpy mark
in place of the missing Berthon and on to D
(Yacht Haven) and then a Committee Boat (CB)
finish off C. Again So, showed us all her stern,
followed by the Njord and The Otter.

A number of us all met on the balcony of the Royal Lymington Yacht Club for a Socially
Distanced (SD) glass of something and good chat on Saturday evening where there
was some interesting discussion as to who had read the Sailing Instructions fully and it
appeared pretty much none of us had interpreted them correctly as the majority of us
could have all sailed inside the Platform and Jack in the Basket on both the first two
races!! Stronger glasses may be required!!
