A TRIBUTE TO ROBIN WALTERS
14
R
obin,
our
Folkboat
National
President, passed away on Tuesday
21st August with his family by his side.
His son James and daughter-in-law
Penny had been racing in Folkboat
Week on Eala with Alistair Maclean, but
abandoned the week to be with him.
It was of course very poignant and
somehow appropriate that Robin should
pass away during Folkboat Week,
which he loved, but it was even more
heartbreaking to know that it was his and
Pauline’s 28th Wedding anniversary that
very day. It was during Folkboat Week
1990 that they quietly slipped away to
get married.
Robin had a passion for Folkboats and
raced his wood classic boat Piasano
in Cowes Week and around the Solent
in the early 60s with the Husband
boats, Tomic, and Blue Mist also others
including Jack Riddle’s Svane . Blue Mist
and Svane are racing this week.
In the summer of 1965 Cowes Week
refused to give Folkboats their own start
so Robin and Tom Husband decided
to move the event to Yarmouth to hold
Folkboat Week at the RSYC. We have
had an excellent and harmonious
relationship with the club ever since.
