DAVID FOX - CHAIRMAN
I
have always loved anything to do with
the water either being in it or on it since
a small boy.
Learnt to sail in an Enterprise from
Brighton beach but sadly moved to
Doncaster in South Yorkshire and didn’t
enjoy the gravel pits or the muddy brown
waters of the Humber estuary.
Changed tack and went crewing on a
Sigma 38, which sailed from Poole, only
a short drive down the motorways! We
completed all the usual long distance
races from Cowes and was frequently
late and tired to work on a Monday! Only
then to set off again on the Thursday!
Also managed with a friend, with stops
for flights home to go to work, to sail
from Hull to Antigua and then around the
islands heading for the Chesapeake up
the intercostal canal to where the new
owner of the boat lived.
Moved to IOW in 2005 and discovered
the joy of Folkboats. There were only two
at that time but I preferred it to the X or Y
Class boats that sail out from the Royal
Solent Yacht Club.
Still find sailing against the tide a strange
thing to do!
Cruising leisurely does have an appeal,
especially in The sunshine.

NICKY HENDERSON - SECRETARY
I
was born and raised on the Isle of Wight,
and have therefore been around boats
all my life.
First in Scows, it was just pre-Tupperware
dinghies, then in XODs and Folkboats.
I did my first Folkboat Week in my
early teens on a lovely wooden English
Folkboat, FB 72, Fickle Baby, that gave
the Husbands a run for their money.
I did not sail Folkboats again until we
returned to the UK having spent many
years working overseas mostly in the Far
East. Since then I have sailed a couple
of seasons with Peter Jennings and with
Sarah Finch and Jeremy Willcock. I have
also been part of the Race Officer Team
for Folkboat Week for several years.
However perhaps where Folkboaters are
most likely to have come across me is
when I was the Sailing Secretary at the
Royal Solent.

Blatchford we welcome two new hands
