A competition arranged by a Scandinavian
Yachting Associ tion to create a boat,
which was easy to sail and at low costs,
co bined four of the best suggestions
out of 58 who entered the competition,
in May 1941.
The first Nordic Folkboat was designed
and launched in Gothenburg, Sweden
in 1942 by Scandinavian boat designers.

Kerteminde Sejlklub will be celebrating
the Nordic Folkboat’s 75th birthday with
for all pas and present Folkboat owners
on 5th and 6th August, prior to the 2017
Gold Cup, 7th to 10th August.
Kerteminde a market town dating back to
the 13th century, where 1,100 folkboats
have been crafted. It offers some of
the best and most challenging racing
conditions in Northern Europe with a
Marina, named ‘Marina of the Year’ in
2015.
