This simple “cutter/plotter” worked well for a while but due to our increasing order
book we had to upgrade it to a more advanced “cutter” that could cope with the
larger sails that we were now making. I was not happy with this new cutter so 18
months ago Sanders Sails invested in the very latest Laser/knife cutter from Blackman
& White. This is the ultimate Sailmakers cutting tool and there is no better; it was a
£130,000.00 investment but it has proved to be a very good one.
Prior to purchasing the Laser cutter we
changed our “sail design software”
several times; the “Sailmaker” software
that we used on the Apple Mac had been
replaced with a more advanced system
from America called “SMSW” which
proved very good for a while but due to
the absence of upgrades we invested in
the latest “SMAR AZURE” system which
has proved to be excellent.
This system is continually upgraded
giving us “all the buttons” we need to
design great sails. It goes without saying
that this is just a “tool” and it does not
design sails for you; if you “put rubbish in
you get rubbish out”.
