Association Yearbook
We are extremely proud to reflect on our year and share some highlights with you the
th
members of the Folkboat Association of Great Britain, in the 80 year of the Folkboat.
Whilst it has been a busy year and
th
we are in completion of our 7 fully
refurbished Folkboat, we do have
sentimental attachment to our
boats. One such boat we purchased
is Woodpecker GBR 690. We had
known the original British owner,
that being Bernard Turner, stalwart
for the Association and one time
Treasurer of NFIA (Nordic Folkboat
International Association) and
lifelong Royal Solent member and
officiate.
With sentimentality and knowledge comes responsibility, and this was at forefront of
mind when restoring ‘Woodpecker’ to a glory probably only seen when first built
some 40 years ago. The yacht was tired but we were determined to complete to a
first class finish, for the new owners who wanted to keep the spirit of the original
yacht. Their aim was short-handed
cruising and local racing, just how
Bernard had used the yacht
himself.
Considerable time and effort has
been taken to ensure every last
detail was covered, the interior
fully restored and returned to
original condition. The original rig
has been fully stripped and
refitted, and the colour scheme
