THE RODDY AINSLIE INTERNATIONAL FOLKBOAT TROPHY

his magnificent new trophy was awarded for the first time at this year’s AGM.
Simon Osgood and TomCase met Sir BenAinslie at a dinner. After having chatted
about Sir Ben’s late father sailing his Folkboat to watch Ben racing, Simon suggested
a trophy in honour of Roddy Ainslie and Sir Ben said he would be delighted.
Any Folkboat that competes in an international event may be eligible to win this
trophy. Then their overall position versus number of boats competing is applied as
the measurement, so every regatta can be measured equally.
The first recipients of the Trophy were Claire and Julian Sowry for their excellent
result at the 2017 San Francisco Cup, where they were placed 6th overall and won
the last race.
